Local varieties, in today’s agriculture
Among the activities of the program LIFE ANDROS, the Municipality of Andros, the LIFE program and the Agricultural University of Athens organized in the weekend 25-26 April two workshops / lectures on “Local varieties in today’s agriculture.”
The lectures took place in the multi-purpose building of Batsi as well as at the Gavrio high school and scientists analysed the following topics:
– Ms. Penelopi Bebeli, professor at the Agricultural University of Athens, was the rapporteur of the issue: “What are the local varieties and what is their importance for today’s agriculture.”
-Mr. Frangiskos Loukrezis, agronomist of the Municipality of Andros, presented the results of the research made on the local varieties of fruit trees and vines of Andros.
– Finally, Mr. RoikosThanopoulos, agronomist at the Agricultural University of Athens, presented the results of the collection of the annual local varieties in Andros and submitted several proposals for their utilization.
