August 2016 Report
During August our team visited the project islets in Steno and Theotokos to monitor the current status of falco eleonora nesting, ahead of the extended field survey which will take place in September. Also, water was added to all the project water ponds.
Regular visits to the project pigeon towers were made, in order to provide food and water for the pigeons and check their status.
Patrolling and surveillance activities continued normally, mainly in land due to rough weather conditions at the sea.
Our team and volunteeres were involved in a number of calls for injured birds, which after receiving first aid, were transported to ANIMA in Athens.
Throughout the month, in addition to Korthi Exhibition Center, a project exhibition with photographs and the project documentary has been operating in capital Chora. Both had extended opening hours (morning/evening/weekends) and were visited by many interested people.
In addittion, HOS run an information kiosk with the participation of volunteers throughout the month of August. The kiosk was located at Chora in order to reach the highest number of visitors and inform them about the biodiversity of the island and the actions and efforts of the project team to protect it.
