January 2016 Report
During January our team has continued the preparation of the plan for the 2016 field activities, including not only the continuation of the implementation of C and D actions, but also the collaboration – networking with other LIFE projects, such as the Cyclades and ElClima projects. There are discussions with these projects, for the Andros project team to participate in field work activities next spring at Gyaros and Makares islet complexes, in order to further improve collaboration, and for gaining extra training by the common work.
Routine activities continue, in respect with the cultivated fields, the agricultural garden and the pigeon towers, with regular weekly visits and work.
Activities with the LCG continued normally, with the highlight of the volunteers’ participation in HOS national Midwinter counts at Andros wetlands.
Two more injured birds were treated in our First Aid Centre and later sent to ANIMA for further treatment.
Preperation has started for another meeting of the SPA Management Scheme, where its internal regulation of operation will be discussed, in order to further empower it.
Finally, an effort has been made for the involvement of the Andros team to new project applications for the Interreg Greece- Cyprus territorial cooperation. These applications are being prepared during January- March 2016 and include collaboration for the conservation of the Monk seal and for the preservation of cultivated terraces on the main island. The Municipality participation in them will be another effort to safeguard the viability of the SPA Management Scheme work after the end of our Life project.
