June 2016 Report

 

During June the project team continued maintenance field works. Work in the agricultural garden continued with summer season plantings.

On June 5th the project boat and team members participated in an overnight operation with Andros Coast Guard in a case of illegal fishing in the western coast of the island. Also the project team and boat participated in a seabed cleaning event, organized in Batsi by the Coast Guard and the Municipality.

The SPA Management Committee had its scheduled meeting on June 16th with the participation of its members who discussed mainly fishing issues and proposals for implementation made by the fishermen association of Andros.

Andros LIFE project participated in a two-day seminar held in Skyros by SKYROSBIODIVERSITY project on June 25/26. It was a successful event, which gave the opportunity to both projects to exchange useful information and experience, especially regarding the sustainable management of the protected areas of the two islands.
